I’m pretty sure that I could previously be on a call and also access data services at the same time, but for the last couple of weeks I’ve been unable to, and now I’m wondering if its all in my head that I previously could lol. It’s frustrating as I need to be able to look things up whilst chatting to people.
Using an iPhone 16 Pro on the latest iOS 18.6.

I get a message to say that cellular data is not available during a call. Coincidentally, shortly after posting my message I received an update to my phone with fresh carrier settings (if prompted by my post here then I'm impressed that's an added automation!). I will test it out over the next few calls and post again if it's still an issue, and if so where location-wise it's happening (as per your question)

4G-calling (VoLTE) & 5GSA-calling (VoNR) support mobile data whilst on a call.
2G doesn't. The older narrow-band voice codecs are another clue of 2G, compared with wide-band HD voice of 4G & 5G

Do you get an error message when trying to access data when on a call? Can you access data once the call has ended?
Also, is this happening in multiple locations?

It appears to have done, although I haven’t tested it perhaps as much as I should because I’ve been driving on the majority of my recent journeys when making calls (to test whether it’s a locational issue). Have you recently used an e-sim on holiday? That’s the only thing that I could out it down to as the cause, if that’s changed my carrier settings. Perhaps try this and see if either that, or contacting EE customer services to ask them to send through refreshed carrier settings, does the trick. https://ee.co.uk/help/mobile/fix-problem/Managing-APN-settings
