Gifting data

Both my wife and son has said they have gifted data on the account, however nothing has been gifted? My son has used his hotspot for his xbox for one night due to the Internet being down, bit that is not gifting, could someone please explain as to how ot could of been used?

Did the number that was gifted data receive a notification the data was gifted? 

Has the data allowance reduced by the gifted amount in the EE app?
