Did you mean:

EE data in Vietnam

If you are travelling to Vietnam and want to have data access to get internet access, maps, pay, etc. forget it.

EE is not currently supported by the local Vietnamese mobile providers and the best you will get is 3G which is not strong enough to get mobile data access.

I have a contract, pay monthly, enabled roaming with a travel data pass.

You are best to buy a local SIM card that will work and is much cheaper than any roaming pass EE can offer even if it did work.

3G is quite capable of mobile data, I'm not sure what you mean by "not strong enough"?

Data speeds are not dictated by the perceived quality of signal, but the amount of spectrum available.

@GuyDavies   So EE is supported otherwise you’ll have no signal on your device at all. How do you think you got 3G on the device?  EE isn’t responsible for the network connection only the ability to roam in a different country with a network provider.

To contact EE Customer Services dial 150 From your EE mobile or 0800 956 6000 from any other phone.

3G is quite capable of mobile data but having called EE tech team twice from Vietnam and they having reviewed my account and phone settings admitted that EE doesn’t have an agreement with the local network providers.

if you look at the current list of countries under the EE Travel Data Pass, Vietnam is not included.

if you want reliable mobile data, the advice from EE is to purchase a local Vietnamese SIM card.

I have 3G, can make calls and texts, so supported for that.

My advice is for mobile data, e.g. no internet access, maps, epayments, etc without Wi-Fi. I have called EE tech team twice from Vietnam and they having reviewed my account and phone settings admitted that EE doesn’t have an agreement with the local network providers for reliable data, so I have been told to buy a local SIM card.

if you look at the current list of countries under the EE Travel Data Pass, Vietnam is not included.

If you have a solution, please share with the EE community.

@GuyDavies  But they do or you wouldn’t get a signal on the device in order to use that local network which you are because you have a working connection.
It’s just that Travel data pass just doesn’t include Vietnam.  You might want to look at THIS

To contact EE Customer Services dial 150 From your EE mobile or 0800 956 6000 from any other phone.

Thank you. I have a signal and working connection on the device and it says 4G, so I can make and receive calls, I can prove this as I have spent £140 on callls to EE and Apple support trying to resolve the problem  despite having a  Global Roaming pass, as per your super helpful link.

It is mobile data I need, i.e. connection to the internet when not using Wi-Fi. Can you give me a solution to solve this issue beyond sending me a link that I have already seen and have been alerted to by EE Technical Support. Apple support have also been extremely helpful but have concluded that this issue is not a fault with my device.

The solution is get a local SIM card and disregard the EE SIM in Vietnam. This is the purpose of my post to assist other travellers.

In some previous posts, the symptoms were explained as 3G showing, the latest update is that you have 4G and a working connection.

If you have a network connection and can make & receive calls, what happens when you try to use mobile data?

When did your mobile data last work?

Despite having 4G, I have no mobile data. I have been in Hanoi, Hue, DaNang and Ho Chi Minh with the same problem. I last have mobile data in the UK.
