EE SMS REST API

I have a remote, unattended computer which uses an EE data-only 4g connection.

I'd like this system to be able to send SMS alert messages via that EE account. Is there an HTTP REST API which I can use to send (and possibly also receive) SMS messages?

I've seen references to an EE GATEWAY. Is that what I need? Is there an API and authentication guide to it?

Data-only devices should still be able to use SMS.

There's no API to SMS. It's just simple messaging. The EE SMS Gateway was dropped years ago. There are other providers providing SMS Gateways.
