Registering mobile broadband

I bought a mobile 4g router from Argos , preloaded with data. I am trying to set up the app so I can manage top ups, but my mobile phone is with another provider. The app asks me to input the mobile number for the router, which I have, but then it says it’s going to send a text to confirm? How can I respond to the text? It’s not a phone? Also the router was for my son who is away at uni, so I’m not physically in the same place as the router??
