Hi
I have just bought one of the above mifi routers, used, without documents, or sim card, to use as a backup for my regular Huawei unit. I need to know how to either reset or unlock it. I have done a hard reset to revert both user and password to ADMIN, but obviously I cannot connect to it without a SIM. I am not an EE customer-yet. I intend using it with an EE SIM on a 1 month contract, but in the meantime need to know if the unit is actually working. How can I do this? It charges and the lights all work at various times, as expected. Also, I would like a full manual for it if available, not the quickstart guide, which I have. Any info on setting this up for future use welcome. There is no 'keep me' card, and that would be specific and personal to the previous owner anyway. Can these also be used on another network as is, with relevant SIM? Cheers folks!

@Billy_Bottle Yes you are right the device does have two separate passwords, one for the admin pages and one the WiFi connection key. It is only the admin page one that defaults to admin though, if it is the 4G WiFi Mini you have, one that does not have a removable back cover etc then the default WiFi key should be MYWIFI followed by the last 4 digits of the IMEI i.e. MYWIFI1234
Give that password a try and see if it is able to connect. The link @Peter_W provided has been archived from public view due to its age unfortunately, but someone had a similar issue and was able to resolve it and posted the following instructions in their post, so worth a try also if the default is not working.
1. Connect the device to a Windows PC (not a Mac) via a USB cable (make sure you use a USB cable that is capable of sending data as some USB cables do not send data and are only for charging devices).
2. Open up Windows Explorer and you should see a new drive appear next to your existing hard drive(s). On my PC it shows up as "CD Drive (D:) Web Connection". Click on this and then double click on "Autorun.exe" and follow the prompts to install the Web Connection software.
3. Once the software is installed a web browser window should open automatically with this URL: http://ee.mobilebroadband/index.html. In the bottom right box which starts "To manage settings on your 4GEE..." click on "log in here" and then enter, in lowercase "admin" as both the username and the password. This will give you access to the router where you can change the wifi key/password to one of your choice.

It can't work fully w/out a SIM. Charging & the lights are the most you can expect until then.
There is no KeepMe card. Its connection details will be found on a label on the reverse of the battery cover.

Hi, ta for reply. However, no sticker or label on unit, no access to battery without complete teardown (already done that to check suspect SIM slot which was OK), have only imei number, but have got an unlock code from EE however webpage will not permit any text to be typed in the relevant box. Tried alternative browses too. Device is indeed locked according to EE. Code should be generated on page after verifying imei, capcha etc, but field remains blank. Have got it by email, as long as it does not expire OK, but page will not accept typing in input box! Grrr.....

Oh, you must have an older 1. Is it an Osprey Mini? I suspected that when you said username was "admin". That did have a KeepMe card which applies to the device, not the owner.
You can use the unlock code when you put a non-EE SIM in it.
Am puzzled as to which page will not accept input.

Don't think it's the Osprey, maybe the one after. It is the one with very slightly curved sides, I got the 'keep me' card stuff, and resetting to 'admin' for the user name and password, from the online quickstart guide. As in the pic. As I intend going with EE with this device, unlocking is not vital, but would be nice if I can, and can at least test it with my current provider to verify that it actually works.

OK, that's the older 4GEE WiFi Mini but is much the same as the Osprey.

Happy new year y'all....I'm still at this, no results yet- anyone care to comment please? I have tried the dongle with my current working non-EE sim, no connection (not surprising as it's locked), have tried it with the last EE sim the account of which may be closed, but I have no details of any password or such for it, so did a hard reset, passwords should now be reverted to 'admin'. It does not work, it does not connect with my working non EE or defunct EE sim. I have input on EE unlock page, the IMEI, verified it, but no unlock code shows up. So I can't use 'use this code' or whatever it says, and progress, so I got it by email. The EE pages to use to input the unlock code, do not allow any text to be typed in the unlock code box, so I'm going round in circles. So, do I need to put in my non EE working sim, to connect to the dongle and try to get on 192.168.1.1 -which I cannot do as the PC will not accept the password to connect to it, even tho it should now just be 'admin'- and why does the EE web pages to unlock not work like it should? All help is welcome. TIA folks.

Good afternoon @Billy_Bottle, welcome back to the Community!
Just so I can be sure I've got the right details of everything that's been going on, am I correct in thinking you have successfully received an unlocking code from our team, but are struggling to complete the actual unlock itself?
How exactly is it that you're connecting to this when you try heading over to the admin pages?

Hello Peter,
that's about it mate. I am using my current Huawei dongle with a Smarty sim, for internet and this forum. I cannot connect at all to the EE dongle, irrespective of which sim is in it, EE or Smarty. Note, the EE sim that was in the EE 4Gee mini when I got it is from someone elses account, which may have been closed, but is certainly not active, No docs came with it- I bought it while away on holiday as I thought my Huawei was defective, which it isn't.
I have tried EE online unlock pages but it does not let me input any text into the relevant boxes, nor does it generate an unlock code. Hence I had the send it by email option. However, following the steps in the email the same happens. I cannot access the dongle home page at 192.etc.
It's not the end of the world, but I'd like to have a spare unit, and I will be getting an EE sim later this month anyway, but it won't work in this 4gee as it's locked. I do have the unlock code as you assume. Any thoughts please? Cheers!

Thanks @Billy_Bottle, so are you successfully connecting to the router wirelessly, and heading to 192,168.1.1, and this is when it's asking you for the unlock code?
If possible can you please pop up a screenshot of what you're seeing here?
Also what device is it you're trying the unlock from?
Peter
