5gEE Router and Antenna

Hey

So I recently purchased the current 5gEE Router, at home depending on the location of the router I would either get 4g signal or 5g in places.

So I decided to purchase a Poynting XPOL-2-5G, having tested it out this evening I'm finding only a very limited improvement and interestingly the improvement is seen when the antenna is connected but the router switch is still set to internal.

So I have a few questions

Have I purchased the right Antenna

Where should I be directing it

Which ports should I be using

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Welcome to the community, @meadowsj1991.

Where did you buy the antenna?

Our Tech Gurus will be able to advise what antenna works best, and usually if you get one through them they'll send someone to set it up.

Is your Router model the Zyxel NR5103 from EE?,

Q - Have I purchased the right Antenna

Your Poynting XPOL-2-5G Antenna is a reasonably good Aerial (they do a lot of different makes now with simular model numbers), but it should cover all the current 4G and 5G Bands (700 to 3800Mhz). Just to confirm how many Coax Feeders does the Antenna have 2 or 4?

Q - Where should I be directing it

Ideally the Antenna will be best at directing towards your 5G Mast rather than your Local 4G Mast (they may not be the same Masts), This is going to be a bit challenging as EE do not give out there 5G Mast Locations. If you wish you can PM your Post Code and I may be able to assist with this (Please do not post Personal Information on the Community Forum).

Q - Which ports should I be using

If its the Zyxel Router it will have 4 x Antenna Ports, again not easy as it depends which 5G NR Bands you are getting (5G n78 Band will use a different Port to 5G n28 Band). On your Routers Status Page, it should show what 4G and 5G Bands you are connected to, plus some Signal Info and Cell ID for each (RSRP etc) post up or screenshot that Staus Page (Remove any Personal info like Phone Number and IMEI Numbers).

Thank you

Have sent a DM with the location.

Hi, thanks, Ive not been around much, let me absorb the info a bit later and I will post back.

Chris.
