5G router speed limited on mesh network

I've just got a 5G router and get download speeds of 80+ when connecting to its wifi or direct via ethernet LAN port.  But when I connect the 5G router to my mesh network the download speed drops to 8 - is there a setting on the 5G router that throttles speed when connecting it to a mesh network ?

No.

thanks - any idea why speed is dropping so much then on the m ash network ?

No, I don't but here are some pointers.  Your best speeds from the Router is always going to be via the Ethernet Port  (ie, Cabled Connection), if your getting close to these Speeds over a Direct WiFi connection then you are doing well, I'm going to assume this is over a 5Ghz Connection (or even a WiFi6)  rather than a less Bandwidth of a 2.5Ghz WiFi Connection.

Because your getting your expected Speeds from the Router directly then you could rule out any Router issues, so your need to consintrate on your Mesh System as the culprit for considerable lower speeds, it could be a simple case of assigning the correct IP Range to suit the Router / Mesh Setup or if in Bridge Mode again checking the correct Settings, but how is you Mesh System connected, wired or WiFi, let's assume the later, so bare in mind a WiFi enabled Mesh System works on the basis of Repeatering the Original WiFi Signal and then Rebroacasting that received Signal from the Router (so it's never going to be as good as and in some cases can be less than half of the original Speed) so some factors can easily rapidly reduce the Overall Speeds of the Mesh Network, ie each Mesh Unit is too far away from the Routers WiFi is the most common reason, plus the Mesh WiFi Bands in use, ie typically is it using 2.5 or 5Ghz WiFi Bands, another consideration is Co Channel or same Channel WiFi Bands from Niebours WiFi Networks, especially if they are also using a Mesh Type Setup.
