@Breamer Thanks for confirming, have you been able to test sending directly through BT Mail rather than Outlook just to confirm if the issue is only when using Outlook?

If you check your outgoing server settings for your e-mail do they match the recommended here, particularly the SMTP settings, with the server set to require authentication? BT Email server settings | BT Help

Hi @Breamer,

Welcome to the EE Community

Which e-mail client is it you use and what exactly happens when you try and send an e-mail? Everything else is working internet wise, you can receive e-mails ok etc its just when trying to send?

Alex

Hi Alex, I use Office 365 Outlook and the service provider is BT. When I try and send e-mail it hangs for a moment and then returens an error message saying it cannot contact the server

Hi Alex, Thanks for all your good advice. Sending from BT Mail does work so I will check the Outlook mail settings. They have not been changed since I set up Office 365 and send mail stopped working when I started using the 4G hub. I will have my BT Halo 3 hub back in action by the end of the week so I may use BT mail until then rather than mess with the mail server settings in Outlook which I have found a bit fragile in the past. The other thought is that the upload speed from the hub is very poor (about 2.5 mbs) so it may just get tired of waiting!  I will let you know how it turns out. Cheers Breamer (actually Hugh)

Hi Alex, Sending from BTinternet.com worked fine. This morning my Halo 3 broadband came back on as promised by BT and e-mail is now working both ways from Outlook so problem solved. I think it was related to the upload speed as it tried to send for about a minute and then timed out. Thanks again for your help. Cheers Hugh (Breamer)
