4G EE Home Router (2017) is substantially slower than my iPhone 13 Pro Max 4G

Okay, so this might take a bit of explaining.

We got our 4G Home Router in roughly early 2021 because our wired broadband speed was horrific (10mbps on a good day). When we first got it, it was a dream come true. Sure, it was expensive, but we were pushing 70mbps without much latency (which was my biggest worry, I play a lot of online games). It was reliable, and fast, and gave the whole house a good wifi signal even though it was placed in an upstairs window.

For the last 4-5 months though, it's been all downhill. Frequent crashes, speeds dipping to 10mbps, high latency, the whole works. Weirdly, I think it's been worse since our sim plan changed over from a 500GB cap to an unlimited data plan, not that that should make any difference...

In the last few weeks, it's really come to a head and I basically rely on my phone hotspot (also on a 4G EE connection) to have reliable internet for conferencing or playing online games. My phone still reaches the speeds that my Router once did when we first got it. My question is: What's changed? And why does it only affect the router, not my phone too? since they're on the same connection??

I've tried factory resetting the router, and that works to get it back up and running but the speeds are still averaging around 20mbps while my phone placed 10cm away from it is pulling almost 4x that.

Is the router somehow buggered? Are there some settings deep in the router config I could try messing about with? Anything and everything, because i'm at a loss on this one.

TL/DR: 4G router is much slower than it was, while my phone on the same 4G continues to have the speeds the router once did.

There are no router settings that make it faster.
