5 G standalone network

I've just had a message from EE telling me to replace my SIM and "upgrade" to the newest 5G standalone nework. Is it worth/safe to do this? I've already got access to 5G.

Thanks for coming to the community.

Most SIM cards would already be ready for 5G Standalone, unless you have had the same SIM for many years.

There have also been some examples of spam texts like this, so it is best to check.

What number did the text come from?

Was there a link for you to click on, or did it just refer you to the EE app?

I'm confident the message came from EE.

It's asking me to say YES to start the process.

Will I have to get a new SIM - I've had mine for some time - or will it download an ESIM as part of the process?

@Anthony541 If your current SIM isn't 5G SA compatible, it would need an updated SIM to get access to it, as well as have a compatible plan, phone and being in a 5G SA area.

Does the message mention it would be an eSIM if you replied to the text? 

You don't have to reply to the message to get a replacement. You can choose an eSIM or physical SIM in the EE app, by calling our customer service guides or if you are the account holder, you can visit an EE store with photo ID (either a passport or driving licence).
