Contacts in digital phones

It appears that the contacts in my digital phone are organized alphabetically by FIRST name. Is there a way to get the contacts reordered by SECOND name (surely that is the normal way to organize names!) or do I have to reinstall all of my contacts again putting last names first?

If you’re with iPhone go into settings then contacts and in there you can change the sort order, display order and can do a few different ways. Even use nicknames

Hi, Thanks for your reply but it's not an iPhone I'm using. It's not a mobile/cell phone it's an EE Home Phone.

Hi, Thanks for your interest. It's an EE Home Phone I'm using - not a mobile phone.

Does the phone come with an Instruction manual you could look at.  What's the model of it.  If you haven't already sorted it

Hi TheDinosaiur1967,

The phone (EE Home Phone) came only with a one sheet folded of basic instructions on how to set it up and what the various buttons are for. I eventually found a manual online for a phone which looks identical except it's a BT phone and it transpires that it is the same phone (BT Essential Digital Home Phone). There are still no "detailed" instructions re entering contacts and there is a remarkable ignorance about them at EE. I eventually edited all of my contacts using last names where it asks for first names so that my list of contacts is in alphabetical order. It would have been useful if the instructions had pointed this out at the outset instead of after I had entered about 20 contacts!

It also appears that there is no way of entering characters such as +, & or ( ) - pretty essential if you want to list "John & Mary" thingamybob.

It's a bit like other EE services I've discovered (to my chagrin and cost) since joining only a few weeks ago - not up to the job.
