iPad coming to end of contract

Hi my IPad (eSIM) contract is coming to its end and as you can imagine having paid of the cost of the iPad I would want to move to a sim only (data plan I would imagine).  Can I check how you go about doing this as not clear in ee app but also on the ee website their sim only data plans are ridiculously expensive I would be paying nearly the same as I was with the iPad on contract and more than double the price of a phone sim only plan with similar data allowances.

"Upgrade Now" from your online EE a/c & choose a phone SIM. There tend to be cheaper & with more data than data SIMs.
