Upgrading from sim only

Hi!

I'm currently at the end of my contract and I am considering switching to a sim only deal. I have a friends and family discount on my account so first question is will I keep this discount?

Secondly, I've been told that lets say my phone breaks after 3 months of being sim only I can 'upgrade' to a phone contract for no fee and still keep my F&F discount. Is this correct?

Thanks in advance.

@Zoltan666  It’s 6 months not 3 for a 12 month sim only and I believe it’s 12 months for a 24 month sim only, so if it breaks in this time frame you’ll not be able to upgrade to a full tariff free of charge.

Yes you can keep the F&F providing that the sim only is above £17 per month before the the F&F discount is applied.   And of course you’re still eligible to retain the F&F.  You’ve not said how you got the F&F but if someone gave you it providing they’re still eligible to give the F&F you keep the F&F.

Hi Chris! Thanks for prompt reply!

I've just found this on an 'all you need to know' post about upgrades.

Can I upgrade from a SIM only plan to a pay monthly phone plan?

Yes, you can move to a pay monthly phone plan if you meet the following criteria:

  • If you have a SIM Only plan and want a new phone and are a new EE customer, you can upgrade once you’ve been on a SIM only plan for six months.

  • If you’ve been on your plan for six months or more, you can upgrade from a SIM Only plan onto a phone plan at any time.

  • If you have a 12-month SIM only plan, you can upgrade once you’ve been on your plan for six months. If you are on a 30-day SIM Only plan, you can upgrade at any time.

So reading the middle one am I right in assuming that after 6 months on the sim only I can upgrade to a new pay monthly phone plan after 6 months???

Hi @Zoltan666

That's right, as long as your account is eligible for the upgrade you wish to choose.
