I have just upgraded and my new bill for this month is over double the cost of what my contract is for

Did you upgrade after your last bill was produced part way through your billing month?

There could be some pro rata charges and you could see some refunds on your next bill.

Please download your bill in your EE app for a full breakdown of your charges.
