Paying back handset

Tallgirl22
Visitor

I’ve bought into a 3 year plan where I repay the cost of the handset each month for 3 years

I would like to pay a lump sum to the provider now

is this possible does anyone know?

@Tallgirl22 : You may always make a large 1-off payment to your a/c & it'll be used as credit towards your future bills.

EE's contracts have no concept of paying off the handset. You agreed to pay the same price for the full duration of the contract. There will however be a 10% discount 3 months after the end of min. term. You may always choose to upgrade your contract to a cheaper SIM-Only contract from the last 45 days of your contract term.

@Chris_B : Don't think so but OP has posted on an EE site, so I can only assume she is talking about EE. She may have mixed up her numbers. Otherwise why hasn't she asked this on her own network's Community?

@Chris_B I upgraded my handset last July and I was offered the option of having it over 2 or 3 years.

@Andy_65    I did hear that EE was offering this I’ve just not seen any information about it,   It’s now on the website also.    If it’s possible to pay more on the device side of the contract you have to speak with customer services.   Don’t forget the device agreement is also a contract that you agreed to purchase over the 36 month term of that contract.  so in order to to break that agreement it’ll be pay off the whole remaining fee of the device.

This type of contract does exist. It is what I signed up to in 2023 (not sure if it was available in Feb that year). 1 year on and I am looking to finish off paying for my handset, but I can not see anywhere in my billing information where I can make that payment.

I guess it is going to be a call to 150 and a trip to every switchboard they have again!

Yes, @dnorm , at the time of those posts, Feb '23, I wasn't aware that such flex-pay contracts were available from EE.

@dnorm   We know as it’s now 2024 and it’s now widely available and advertised.   Back then in feb 2023 this wasn’t something that got advertised as it was offered to customers at the time.   And as with now to pay any extra payment to the device contract you have to call customer services to do this you can not do it via your account,   This extra payment doesn’t reduce the payment term it only reduces the payment amount each month.    The payment term can not be changed as it’s a credit agreement but the payment amount can be reduced with extra payments.    You’ll know this had you actually read the T&Cs that you agreed too.
