Just so you know, we’re unable to let you upgrade or get another phone yet

Good morning,

I am a fairly new EE customer and recently moved my wife's number over to EE. I now wish to move my number to EE but whenever I go to the SIM only page I get "Just so you know, we’re unable to let you upgrade or get another phone yet".

When can I add a second contract? I was hoping to move the remainder of the family over but this is not proving as easy as other providers.

Thank you

Hi @robmac261,

Welcome to the EE Community

Is it just on that SIM only page you get the message or when trying to take out any type of contract? There is not really a guaranteed date with regards to taking out a second contract as eligibility is unique to each person/account, it will update at least every 3 months. If you have not yet had 3 months bills, it would be worth checking back once those are paid.

Hi Alex,

Thank you. When I try to add a second product, it comes up with this error. I am unsure as to why this is even a thing though? If it is going to take the next 12 months to transfer my household to EE then there are other providers that can do it without these restrictions.

I have been a customer for less than 3 months, but I do not wish to wait 3 months every time I would like to transfer another number in.

That's not necessarily the case, it is updated at least every 3 months (and sometimes/often sooner, after 1-2 bills) and on each reassessment your available lines could increase by 1, or it could be as many as 2, 3 or 4 up to a usual max total of 5.

Your initial available lines would have been determined by your credit check on applying, but anything after this point is approved on an internal set of criteria by EE based on billing history, with possibly some remaining consideration of your initial credit check. If it gets to a point where you still don't have the option, you can contact EE and enquire whether they can do a credit referral to request a review for additional lines to be made available.

It is a thing because there unfortunately some people in this world who would gladly go to EE (or any other network) and take out contracts for 5 phones on day one with no intention of ever paying a bill, and those who may take on financial obligations which are beyond their means.

Ah that makes sense now, Matt. Thank you. I might give them a call as I am keen to move the rest of the household's numbers over to a single provider. I'm sure the credit check will hold.

Thank you

Rob
