They blamed theyr agents teling

If you want to cancel your account, you will have to ring them and give them 30 days notice to do so. If you are within your minimum term, you will have to pay the rest of your contract, you cannot just close it.
You do not have to pay £2.75 per day, just the days you use your device, using network. You could pay £25 for the time you are out of the country.

When did you join EE? If it's within 14 days & you ordered online or by phone you may cancel the order FoC before or during the statutory 14-day cooling-off period from delivery. Otherwise ...
If you are wanting to cease your mobile contract completely you need to phone EE giving 30 days notice of cancellation of your contract. Otherwise if you intend to move to another network, either taking your existing no. with you or not, get your PAC or STAC respectively from EE & give it to your new provider. If you are still within your min term you will be liable to pay early termination fees for the rest of the term. It will basically be months left x monthly charge - 4%.
When in the EU you pay the £2.47 roaming charge only on the days you use any of your UK allowances there w/out any extra payment of minutes or texts.
