EE broadband & monthly savings on bill

Hi all,

I have a large family account with EE, 9 lines in total, 7 mobile contracts and 2 iPad contracts. All 9 lines are receiving a Perk code discount of 20%.

I recently called EE regarding an upgrade and the agent on the phone asked me if I had EE broadband. Our broadband is with Virgin and we are very happy with them as we get great speeds at a great price.

The agent then said that because I have a lot of lines, we would save a lot of money each month by signing up for EE broadband. He then suggested that I should sign up for EE broadband, I don't have to use it, and I will still get money off each line every month.

My question is, does anybody know if this is true? 5 of the 7 lines on my account are on the iPhone unlimited no frills plan, and 2 of them are on iPhone 25GB plans. Also, nearly all of the lines on my account will be out of contract by the end of the year, so will signing up to EE broadband mean that I will be renewing them again for another 24 months?

Without seeing your account specifically this is a tough call to make, but the usual saving you make when joining EE for Broadband is the perks received via EE One:

EE One | Unlimited Data Deals with EE Mobile & Broadband Bundle

I can't immediately think why you would see additional savings if your numbers already have unlimited data, but this could be a specific offer beyond that.

As @Northerner mentioned, I would ask for a full breakdown of the exact savings per line, as whilst there are great perks to joining us for broadband, if you already have Perk it's not usually possible to stack discounts.

The question you should always ask in these calls is "can you look at my account/provide me the cost saving per contract you are referring to over my current payment" If they cannot do that it is all sales talk, hang up.

From what you say you won't save anything but again I don't have access to your account in case of some specific deals applicable to you. What I would suggest that if you're happy with the handsets then look at EE SIM only tariffs when your current tariffs minimum term expires as there are better deals and could reduce your costs.

Virgin Media's broadband operates on their own self-contained network, totally independently of any Openreach/BT-based setup that EE use.

Minimum-terms are set on each individual line, not the account itself.

I know that Virgin and BT are seprate. I am talking about if I were to take out EE broadband, I supposedly would get money off each line I have. I am just wondering if that would tie me into another 24 months though.

As I mentioned previously, minimum-terms are set on individual lines, or products if you'd prefer. Just like upgrading one phone has no effect on the minimum-term of another, so taking out EE broadband won't "renew" any existing mobile lines.

The only side-effect would be that adding and removing discounts doesn't affect your minimum-term status, either. So if you re-contract one mobile line based on a particular discount being in-place, and partway through your minimum-term ceases to be in-place, the "in-contract" status would remain so.

Thanks for the reply. The agent did mention I would save a over £150 on my monthly bill because I have a lot of lines. He said that I would get a monthly discount off each line by signing for EE broadband. I am just confused about how it would work as when I have read up on it, it seems to suggest that any additional line you take going forward will recieve a discount. I don't know if that include existing lines? If it doesn't, then I don't see how taking EE broadband will benefit me?

I see, I guess I just need to ask the agent more questions!

I am happy with my Virgin BB and how much I pay for it. If I were to take out EE broadband, it will be only to reduce my monthly bill as I would never use it or connect it up. 

@SammyxVine90 , you would still have to pay for EE Broadband as well as Virgin, if you intend to keep Virgin, just a thought.

Yep I know that! But apparently the monthly savings to my bill will be much higher than the monthly EE broadband costs...

What makes you say that I won't save anything?
