Downgrading at end of contract

Looking to find out if I need to wait until my contact has ended (29/01/23) to down grade to sim only and use my student discount for this or if im able to downgrade now?
When I go though my ee app I can only upgrade to a much more expensive contract.

You may only downgrade free in your upgrade window starting 45 days before end of term.

@Zoe-1979 At present you can only upgrade to have a more expensive contract as you’re within the last 100 days of your current contract. To get out of this you’ll have to pay it all off to the minimum term date so your then contact free. ( this can be expensive ) When you’re within the last 45 days of your contract you’ll be able to upgrade and have a cheaper deal than you have now without paying anything as that’s a free upgrade
