I have a friend in Queensland who is now resident in a care home their. He has a landline facility in his room. This means I can contact him using my UK mobile phone. what costs does this incur. I have unlimited calls and Texts with my EE FACILITY, BUT CANT FIND IF THERE ARE ANY OBSTACLES OR EXTRA CHARGES FOR MAKING SUCH CALLS WITH MY MOBILE.

You need to make sure that you have call abroad enabled, to make sure that calls are cheaper when calling another country.
It will cost you to make calls to another country, your unlimited calls and text are for the UK.

You may find it cheaper to use an app, such as Skype, obviously you will need to add credit. I actually find Mobile VoIP very good.
