I moved from Three to EE mobile recently and when I checked my first bill it says I owe £78 when it should be £28
I contacted EE and they told me this £50 was for setting up International calling but I never asked for this!! They told me that they would remove the £50 charge and I thought great that's the end of it.
But when I went to pay the £28 I have noticed my bill is STILL £78 as the £50 hasn't been removed as promised!!
Looks like I'll need to call them AGAIN

The £50 is probably a refundable security deposit against roaming. If you don't intend to use your phone abroad you can ask for it back.

I just had the same, but when I enquired about why my first bill was higher, they said it was an issue their end and reset the first bill to £28... a bit annoying, but problem resolved, so I thought...
Fast forward a month, trying to make some calls to European countries from the UK for work, and told I have international calling barred. (As a side note, tried to log into my online account to check International settings, kept getting an "application error, please try again later" message) so I phoned 150, got told an engineer had to call me back... Engineer calls me back and resets a load of settings... Can't resolve the problem, says they'll call me back, didn't. This happens twice...
Third time I was sick of it and just said I wanted to leave and go back to Vodafone (where I never had any problem with International calling or logging into my online account)... at that point the customer service agent said I need to pay the £50 refundable charge to enable international calling.
What an absolute farce. If they'd just explained everything clearly from the beginning, I could have saved myself 3 hours of back-and-forth though EE customer service.
Not a good start to my EE experience.
