what is the maximum number of smart discs that will function with a smart router

I should imagine any no. as it's only the 1st that is connected to the router. It's generally reckoned that most people will only need two or three Mesh discs to get a solid signal throughout a two-storey home.

At a technical level, I think its' specced for 5.

It's probably possible to connect more but I imagine it's neither recommended, nor tested.

I suspect buisiness rules will mean you can only acquire 3 or so from EE anyway (which should be adequate for the vast majority of dwellings).
