Switching from Virgin Media to EE

Good afternoon.

Today I signed up for the EE Fibre 67 Essentials broadband package.
The welcome e-mail states I will be getting a Smart Hub Plus.

I am currently with Virgin Media using a Hub 3 which uses a co-ax cable from the wall direct into the hub.
I was informed by the salesperson that an engineer will be visiting to change the cabling. Does anyone know what that entails exactly, what new internal cabling will be required ?
I have looked at the help/guides section on the EE website and they show diagrams with cables needing to be connected to a BT socket. I don't have any BT sockets and haven't had a landline for 10 years!, this won't be a problem right?

The salesperson was blathering on about Fibre to property was not yet available in my street so I would be getting Fibre to Cabinet , which i believe is what I get with VM. This is what confuses me about the need for new cabling ?
Sorry for the basic questions, just having a mild panic attack over this as I have been very happy with VM for 5 years and am only changing providers to save some ££.
Thanks

@Zimfun   VM use their own wiring and cable connections, whilst EE use Openreach to deliver service via a direct fibre, or in your case via a telephone line. This comes with two sockets, one for a telephone that is no longer available, the other a data connection for the new EE router.

You will need to tell VM that you want to cancel their service, but you would be wise to wait until you know when the EE service will go live, or even after it does.

HTH

Thanks Mustrum.
Does this mean they will need to install a new phone line / socket or will they use the existing socket which I haven't used in 10+ years as I don't use a landline ?

If you already have a BT line & socket there even if inactive they will reactivate it. Whatever state it's in they will sort it out.

If you think I helped please feel free to hit the "Thumbs Up" button below.

Thank you @XRaySpeX , I just really hope I don't regret getting half the speed I did with VM for the sake of saving £25 a month! . Fingers crossed it won't be too long before I can get full fibre upgrade.

Hey,

I'm looking at the same transition. How did it pan out?

I had EE broadband years ago and it was awful then 😕

I ended up not switching to EE in the end. When I rang up Sky to cancel my TV package they gave me an offer to stay which I couldn't refuse. This included broadband.

Openreach engineer recommissioned the dormant BT line and so far ( 3 weeks ) have had solid 50mb down and 12 up. I was concerned about the massive drop in speed from the 120mb I was getting from Virgin but the family has not noticed any difference whatsoever, I haven't even told the kids that we have changed providers 🤣

Ha. Good luck and thanks for the reply.
