Returning old equipment (data privacy question)

Hello,
I'm in the process of sending back (Yorkshire Distribution Centre) some old BT routers.
Do I need to do anything to the devices to ensure, from a data privacy perspective, they are safe to send?

I had read that routers can maintain "device profiles" of any device that's connected to it. I'm not sure how true that is or what that information could allow someone to do so I thought I'd check before sending!
Thanks!

@scott229    The easiest way would be to do a factory reset, find the pin hole on the back of the router and insert a suitable item, hold for 30 secs whilst the router is plugged in and the leds change. Then send it off.
