Renewal, downgrade?

So my broadband is up for renewal. I currently have full fibre max 500 I think but the speed we get is o lay around 40mbs. My question is, if this is the highest speed I can get, should I pick a lower speed package to save money? If I pick the fibre plus with 74mbs then technically I should still get at least the 40 I get now right?! Or would it be slower. Help please?!!

Welcome to EE's Home Broadband Forum.

They are diff technologies. Their speeds bear no relationship.

With Full Fibre Max 500 you should be getting way above 40 Meg.

If you would like help with your BB speed or connection issues, please would you carry out the following steps for starters, which will enable us to diagnose the problem and advise you further. Do not restart your router to do these tests:

1. Try a wired speedtest, using an Ethernet cable supplied with the router, here http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest.html . Click on the "Results Page" button at the bottom of the graph you first see and then copy to here just the "Link to this result:" link that you see below the next main graph.

2. What does BT Wholesale Broadband Availability Checker estimate for your phone number? Post just the whole table and the line above it, blanking out your phone number. If it doesn't recognise your phone number or you don't have one, use the Address Checker, not the Postcode Checker.

If you think I helped please feel free to hit the "Thumbs Up" button below.

@Suddsy  how are you testing your speeds - via Wi-Fi or a direct ethernet connection?

You could certainly save money by reducing your speeds, but thinking about your requirements needs careful consideration. You must have had a reason to go for the 500Mbps package, would 80Mbps meet your needs.

When you say you are onlt getting 40, is that Mbps, or MBps - bits or bytes?
