New router after upgrade

I currently have the EE smart router from 2023, together with a set of the white mesh discs. I couldn’t get a definitive answer from EE technical as to whether the discs would work with the latest router. The best they could offer was that they might or might not work.

As I live in a tall house with a router on the ground floor and living spaces on two floors above, where there are devices which need to be hardwired rather than connected by Wi-Fi, I need to be sure that I can use discs. I could spend £7 a month extra to get three discs from EE however that would defeat the purpose of the upgrade as the faster connection is cheaper.

I do not want to buy another set of discs and junk the current ones, so perhaps the best option is I don’t upgrade.

Any advice/help on compatibility would be gratefully received… thanks

@Iane15   what broadband service do you have, and what are you considering moving to?

Also what is the model number of your current router and discs?

I would be upgrading from full fibre 100 to 150 which apparently requires a new router.

Current router the Smart Hub, white at front and black at back and standard white discs. I can’t see any model numbers on either.

@Iane15  I am pretty sure your current router would be fin.

But you are likley to get the newer Smart Hub plus, which come with different WiFi extenders.

The new router is also WiFi6, but your current extenders are WiFi5.

Sorry to press you, but I want to be certain that the current router will work with the upgraded connection as I don’t want/can’t afford to ditch the discs. I appreciate that I won’t get the benefits of WiFi6.

I have just found another thread which says they are not compatible

@Iane15   If you were upgrading to 500 or 900 you would need the newer router, but the White Smart router was designed to cope with up to 300Mbps. G Fast, but was also used on the early 900 Full Fibre.

That is why I was after the model numbers.

I have the product number GRV9517UWAC34-A-OT on the back of the router… does that help?

@Iane15   Not really, but as already you will be fine with the current router.

As you don't want to pay more for the new WiFi plus, I assume you also will not be in need of any of the other add on's?
