New Smart Hub 7 Pro …WiFi poor

I have just upgraded to smart Hub Pro 7

This was recommended by EE Home Tech to provide much better WiFi performance, specifically on distance.

It was explained that it has 8 antennas and is far superior in performance.

It is installed an up & running, first issue was it could not connect to WiFi extender Pro, it would pair alongside, but not connect when placed in position the old WiFi extender was.  EE added another Extender alongside Hub to remain in Ethernet connection, providing ‘bridge/daisy-chain’ configuration.

I have now found, TV phones, iPads, keep dropping out of WiFi connection, unless I connect to a ‘compatible 2,4 GHz’ network ID.   They were happy with auto 2.4/5. GHz on previous Home Hub 6

Is there anything I need to set or configure on the HomeHub 7 Pro, certainly not getting anywhere near the old hub performance, let alone one ‘significant improvement.    Apart from enabling a ‘Compatible’ network noth8ng else changed.

@Memnon First see this link for the Extenders. Top Tips for pairing your WiFi Extenders to the Smart Hub 7 Pro - The EE Community

The change is you have went from WiFi 6 to WiFi 7 device, the Pro Extenders work in the 6Ghz band which is far less superior in the signal transmission distance to start with so your Pro Extender may not work as well as your older one in the same position, once you get it paired you may have to try a few different area positions.

You DO NOT want to have an Extender sitting next to the EE Pro Hub, that is all wrong so get it away from that position.

Try not to use the reference HomeHub, what you have is an EE Smart Hub 7 Pro....

OK ... I can understand that .... not sure how the Bridge mode has got them to work, but I'll accept that.

The issue, though, is that many vdevices are now getting Wi-Fi dropouts which were previously solid, if I switch them to Compatible 2.4GHz they work, but they worked fine on auto mode   2/4/5 previously.

It seems that currently I have to run everything in 2.4 GHz .... to use the SmartHub Pro 7 ...... hence my question is the anything I need to change or set up.

@Memnon There is nothing you can set on the EE Pro hub, seen your post earlier think a day or so ago with the reference that Bridge was the way, it was a load off Tosh advice you were given but did not wish to upset your apple cart.

The devices that you have and have had to connect to the Comp network to get working, have a look there is a 5Ghz WPA2-PSK mode there also, if you have it switched off then turn it on....

Look at the link sent, read it all and there has been a few suggestions on getting the Extenders to play ball connection wise.

Ethernet connection is by Far the best but that is all dependent on how the Home is setup, and for sure a Hub/Extender sitting next to each other is NOT THE WAY TO MAKE IT ALL WORK.

@Memnon I setup a BT Smarthub2 complete wifi couple months ago for a friend, it was up and running, complete mesh in less than a couple off minutes, as no access to the hub i just used the add extender tab in the advanced wireless configuration, now see the EE has the same box so it may just be working.... There is just not enough tools in the EE toolbox and though they try to make it easy,,,, difficult seems to be the way off it all. Do try the Hub off once you have followed the steps in the link.

WiFi drop outs are well associated with WPA3-T which is the temporary wireless wifi step, depending on when you had your EE Smart Hub 6+ version if like mine (March 2024) it was set OOB to WPA2-PSK, i did that and suffered NO instability, as soon as EE FW updated that hub i departed as not having any off it at all. That is why EE have now introduced the Compatible mode and you just may have to use it now.

Did go through many steps with EE support, including h/w reset  .... they could not get it to pair once I moved away from the Hub.

It was then their suggestion to set up a 'Bridge' connection .... and that connected straight away.

@Memnon As you are on the 1.6Gb/s package, you also may have the EE Guide assistance part in your package, if so do not hesitate, call them and get an EE Guide to come sort it all out, that may just be the best way to deal with it all.

FW/ r3.8.25-R-1595997 Prod-1

I don't know where to get the GUI app version

"EE Guide assistance part in your package"

I'll phone and ask.
