Gaming connectivity issues

Ok, I am currently experiencing some connectivity issues which a specific game, namely Destiny 2, but the problems only seem to be occuring with my PS5 consoles.  Running the game on my PC or laptop have no issues.

To be clear i am currently using an Asus GT-BE98 and although i have the EE equipment for my 1.6Gps service i have never used them on account of having the Asus.  I have tried setting up port forwarding as per the details on the Bugnie forums but it still doesnt seem to resolve the issue.

One thing that has been highlighted to me is that i dont currently have IPv6 configured which may (or may not) be causing my current issues, so the question i ask is there anything specific i need to do to enable IPv6 on non EE equipment? I have had a quick look at the router config and when i select the option to enable IPv6 there are a number of options when it comes to connection type or interface and i dont know where to beging with this, can anyone provide some advice for this?

Ok good luck with it all , would be good to find out if you fixed it on the ASUS router , but at leased you know where the issue lies now & the EE hub Is an option , although not as in depth as a dedicated off ISP router it really is quite good & sometimes the simpler option just works better , anyways look forward to hearing the outcome with the ASUS.

Well after a short period of switching back i can categorically state that the issue is with the Asus router without a shadow of a doubt.

I cant say specifically what the actual cause is whether the router is faulty in some way or whether there has been some shenanigans at the other end but after switching back to the Asus and updating some config the Asus still will not operate correctly even after combining the SSIDs into one, so i guess its back to Asus i go even though i am not sure wgen the warranty ended

Hi there sorry the ASUS is acting up , ill do a little more research later to see if the bowels of reddit etc might have a solution , i had a similar situation years back with a particular gateway, a ps3 & cod 4 , gateway was perfectly fine with literally every other game & no amount of messing about with it solved things so i just trashed the gateway but back the COD was paramount it was my main game so that took precedence over everything else so something drastic had to be done , so i totally get the importance of a certain game all to well  , what it could be is some buried setting thats not normally found in a less advanced gateway/router possibly ?

@soupladel Just so you are aware, i operate my Tri-Band Asus with 3 separate ssid's also, with mixed wired/wireless backhauls and RP-AX58's as AP's but routing mode, little TP powerline thrown in the mix for the awkward spots and VOIP direct on the main router also. Not a gamer at all, latest Asus FW update to the two XT8's nothing out of place so to speak.

Sure would look on the Asus site for you the versions so not that long ago and the previous was right below the info. Asus is normally good with updates but they are just like anyone else not infallible to oops....

It’s conceivable but I can’t understand why it would just happen all of a sudden without some action on my part as it was working fine until a couple weeks ago.

it’s not easy to tell when it last received a firmware update but on the asus site it suggests it was last updated mid August which doesn’t really match with when my problems started and as far as I can tell none of the ps5s have had an update in the time either.  In all my attempts at working out what happened I have even removed all port forwarding and static IPs and it still didn’t make a difference but I know when I removed all static IPs I did have issues with my pc and laptop so they needed to be put back

Yeah I have reported the issue to asus and they offered up a couple of suggestions but the steps they suggested didn’t make a difference so I replied again and am waiting for their next response.

although my problems dont match up with the timing of the last update I suppose it’s conceivable the router didn’t update immediately on release.

i know a lot of people would just give up on the ASUS and stick with the EE equipment but it’s too damn expensive to not be using it and I would imagine at 2 years old it will be beyond any return period

@soupladel Keep at it, have never used Asus support for anything so cannot say if they are any good or not, always difficult to say, when they publish an update on there download site to when Auto updates do get carried out, i have mine on Auto update does go smooth normally but this last one was a little different, main node XT updated fine but the secondary did not for some reason, noticed the network was just not as it should be, seen the difference and did a manual update to the missing one, reset everything and then checked it all again, tickety boo operation wise no issues.

Looking back at my logs, Edited ---- 6/8/2026 was when Asus applied the Auto update, and the file is dated for me as 6/8/26 from the Asus downloads, i go get the unit's FW when i see the update just incase i need to roll it backwards.

You know something I am not as sharp as I once was since I was medically retired due to meningitis and a resultant mini stroke, but it never even occurred to me to look at rolling back the firmware !!

that beings said, as I have reported the fault to ASUS I guess I will need to wait for their response before I consider rolling back the firmware

@soupladel No problem here to help if you need it. No point in messing a completely good Asus Rog router if the FW does not need to go back one version, just all bad timing so to speak from what i see on your posting....
