Early renewal of contract and new kit

I see there's a post in here from @Ewan15 about the new hub and extender. Mine seems to have arrived - unexpectedly.

My contract expires in January 2026 but a few days ago I received an email from EE suggesting that if I renew now they will maintain the price and retain my £20 a month discount on my four SIM cards. I know it's a scare tactic but decided to renew anyway because I'm unlikely to move away in any event. The unlimited SIMs are a big thing for me.

Completing the paperwork I was offered the new Wi-Fi 7 hub plus one range extender, for £10 a month, plus the Wi-Fi controls I've never had, for £5 a month. I was careful to tick all the fields that said I don't want those extras. I'm not bothered with the upgraded hub, or a range extender, or Wi-Fi controls with no children in the household.

I then started to get texts to say that my equipment is on its way - two different texts. I've checked the new contract and there is no sign of additional monthly charges. Three boxes arrived this afternoon and I suspect there are more boxes coming tomorrow. I've not opened any of the boxes and won't open the rest that come. Not until I'm satisfied I'm not going to be charged. I'd rather return the kit. Something else strange though - the label on one of the boxes says it a hybrid hub. Not something a need or want.

All very strange. Has anyone else had this?

@HenryTudor8 Would be helpful if you detailed all the label models on the boxes, but are you moving or currently on a full fibre package at your home and also currently using or not a landline connection.

Package to you may just be a swap out depending on what equipment you currently have from EE!

What package did you decide to upgrade to/renew on? (Full Fibre 150/300/500/900 Essentials/All Rounder/Full Works)

If you have received a Smart Hybrid Connect unit then that usually implies you are either on a Full Works package or paying for the Smart Hybrid Connect add-on separately.

Good morning,

Thanks @Matt_124 and @JimM11  for your replies.

I've been on the Full Works for nearly two years and accepted the invitation from EE to extend it early. I didn't expect any new kit. However, I had two separate texts saying that new equipment has been dispatched. Some boxes arrived yesterday and some may arrive today. One box contains a "Hybrid Connect Consumer V2" and the other a "Smart WiFi SW30A". There is also a TV mini box. I don't need any of this. The broadband is fast and reliable and TV is okay. I'd have taken the new WiFi 7 hub, but it won't really make a great deal of difference.

I'm interested to see what else comes and suspect it will all need a visit to a local EE shop or a few hors on the phone to 150. In the meantime I'm not opening any of the packages.

I'm interested to know if anyone else has been through the same experience.

@HenryTudor8 You don't have the new so you are aware with the model's you have posted, but the links below may help you! It is all based off the EE Smarthub+ (Plus) system and keeping you all up to date.....

Good luck with it all when you do get round to trying to set it all up, use the help all the information is there and post's search when it goes pear shaped and something does not go as expected, especially when you try to get the all talking to each other!

@HenryTudor8 You are probably better to go with all the new gear sent, EE have tried hard to make the process off switching over one to the other as painless as possible, BUT do hang onto all off the old as there is 60 day's to return anything that is requested to be returned, so NO RUSHING to post it all back as you may just need to go backwards!
