A friend of ours, an old lady, is moving to shared accommodation and has been told she must pay over £900 for early termination of her EE broadband as there still over 20 months of the contract to run.
Has anyone any experience or advice on how to reduce this excessive almost punitive penalty. Thanks

There won't be! It's worked out according to an Ofcom formula. It is far less than what's still left to pay to full term, unlike mobile exit fees.

@Ig4000 a quick calculation shows that is £45 per month, which seems quite high for basic broadband, so are you able to find out exactly what services they have? They may have a call package which may be cancelled before cancelling the broadband.
Alternatively do they have any relatives or friends that she could move the broadband to via the house move service . She would still be liable until the contract ends, but perhaps could come to an arrangement .
It does seem odd that she would take up a new 24 month contract and want to leave so soon.

@Mustrum : A Home Move would reset a new 24 month contract.
