Hi,
I signed up for EE TV & Broadband and was told this could be installed without any issues.
The BT engineer turned up and told me they would have to run a cable through my garage, around the front of my house around my porch etc.. which would look a right mess.
Does anyone know if I can use my EE TV box over Virgin Media's broadband?
Thanks

@emily612 Do not have the EE TV but as far as i am aware it will work with any broadband supplier. You may not get it at the price given if you have done some sort of package deal, so would check that out.

Hi @emily612 No, it won't work with your Virgin Media broadband. The EE TV subscription channels can only be provided to you over a EE broadband connection.

Thank you. I guess I'm going to have to cancel the TV and Broadband package - which is disappointing

@Neil-O - thanks for your reply.
If I was to get my WIFI router installed within my garage where the BT line comes in, would the EE Apple TV solution work over WIFI? (Where I believe the EE TV box would need to be physically connected to the EE Router)

@emily612 What type of broadband are you having installed, is it new FTTP service from OR that does not exist at present if you know please inform us.
There are some installation rules but having your router in the garage may not be the best place for it to be to get the wi-fi signal to were TV box next to the TV would be located.

Hi @Jim11, I'm not fully sure - it's down as Fibre "Essentials: Full Fibre 500". They have made the fibre optic cable in the street live. Our garage is integral and it would make it around 15 feet from the router to the TV Box.

@emily612 You are having fttp installed with those kind of speeds, the instal goes as Fibre fitted and connected to an ONT modem which needs to be near a power socket to power this device, You know how they first pro-posed to do this and made you unhappy with the fibre cable routing. The wireless signal has to get through walls, which can be difficult at the best of times, and even more so if they are foiled lined. Was there not any other option for your pre-install visit to get this to a central location. You can try the garage, it may work so who knows.

The only visit I had was yesterday. The engineer looked at where the cable comes in the within garage and couldn't work out how to route it to where our TV goes. It would involve going through the garage door, around our porch, around a bay window etc.. but there's nothing to clip it to.
We have Virgin media and that is routed into the property via a duct/pipe and comes up right next to where our TV is - so the router/TV are next to each other. He said he couldn't use the Virgin duct to run his cables.
If the router could go in the garage and either the EE TV Box (or I'll upgrade to the Apple TV box if that would be better) can connect over WIFI without any performance problems that would work?

@emily612 When is your install scheduled for, you can test the EE router when you get it in the garage and see if you get the wi-fi ssid from it on your phone near your TV on your mobile if you have one. You could also test by just disconnecting the VM router temp, and placing it in your garage to also see how the signal strength is with it. Most router's are fairly similar with wi-fi signal strength but it is no guarantee for operation. Similar if you cannot get a wi-fi signal on a mobile while standing in the garage then don't expect it to work. If you are able to speed test your mobile, connected to the VM wi-fi standing in the garage, it will give you an idea how good/bad it may be. HTH
