Dad moving from Plusnet to EE and needs help

So, my 86 year old non-technical Dad is being moved to EE apparently on Friday, so he can keep his home phone. He's had a new router delivered and literally nothing else. He's phoned EE and got to talk to someone he couldn't understand very well and basically only learned that:
- he's not getting an engineer out to help him
- he's going to be billed separately for (something?) by "green bay"
- they would send him an email with a bunch of info and a video (they haven't)

So, here are some questions I'm really hoping one of you lovely lot can answer:

- If his internet and phone are being switched over on Friday, will both start working properly straight away, or will his phone take days ?
- will the EE router have been pre-configured with his account info ? I'm fairly sure my latest Plusnet one was.
- what will happen to his Plusnet email addresses? he has NOT been told he's moving to Greenby, so we have no idea whether his email will just disappear
- if he does move to Greenby, will they be charging him for it?

He has had literally no communication from Plusnet other than "we're chucking you out" after more than a decade.
So, as it stands I'm doing a 400 mile round trip at the end of the week to try and help him out.

Thanks in advance to for any help you can give.

Greenby is running PN's email service for them. When he switches BB to EE he should still be able to use it with little or no change. There should be no extra charge for it.

If he is switching BB like-for-like it should work straightaway after a little downtime of Fri. while it is switched. The digital landline might take a day or 2.

The EE router will already be config'ed with the necessary BB authentication creds.

If you think I helped please feel free to hit the "Thumbs Up" button below.

@OriginalBigBri For you when you need it there.

Landline switchover you need to see, can be anywhere from 24-48hrs for the old to the new gelling together. That's the same for ANY ISP doing similar.... Phone connects right into the back off the hub or if DVA watch the video....

Thanks for the info. I stuck with Plusnet and moved my phone number to Andrews & Arnold and it took nearly a week.

Dad's asking why he shouldn't plug his phone into the phone connection on the filter. I've been trying to explain that it no longer works like that, that's the whole reason he's having to do this. I manage most tech support using Team Viewer but that's no good of he hasn't got his internet connected properly

@OriginalBigBri It's just one off those things, you are going to be best there to switch it over, did the same for my dad when he was a ripe young 82year old, lucky me only 50miles away so 1hour journey. If you have any EE experience may go reasonable for you, personally would get a BT Smart Hub 2 2nd hand one plenty about and stick that one you will have way easier time and looks very like the PN version but with a working DV option on the Hub.

Ask what he has been sent from EE if it is a SH31B version you may just have a real scary time...

I honestly can't face another long phone session with him 😵💫, so I'll find out what hardware he has when I get there.

He only uses the internet for email and for us have video calls.

I use my Plusnet modem in bridge mode, as I have quite a completed LAN setup with Netgear router and multiple access points

Don't think dad's going to need that 🙂

@OriginalBigBri For sure he won't, more worried that the wifi 6 on the newer hub does NOT play nice with anything he has wifi wise, so you may have to get the Comp network all set up, wired he should be fine the hub's Ethernet delay has been fixed now 2 years later. Need anything just post up.👍👌

Thanks. It will just be his laptop and Facebook Portal.

I'll let you know how it goes. 🙂

@OriginalBigBri    You should check with Plusnet to see if the email has already been transferred to Greenby, as if not it is likley to be lost. As mentioned above, many email accounts have been moved to Greenby, so all should carry on as is, but there may be a need to update settings if he uses outlook or another app for email.

@Mustrum I'm positive he hasn't been moved to Greenby, as I can still access his email on webmail.plus.net

Absolutely appalling service from Plusnet, for a long term customer who has literally no technical knowledge 😤
