Broadband Speed

I have the Full Fibre 150 service where I am guaranteed at least 100mbps. I am not getting those speeds (getting high 80s) I do use TPLINK devices that use the household network loom to use an Ethernet connection which I think are the cause as I have connected direct to the hub using a 10m ethernet and get the 150mbps

I wondered if the broadband filters as mentioned on the start up page here https://ee.co.uk/help/broadband/getting-started/set-up-guide will give me the higher speeds. Also do EE/BT sell these or recommend any particular brand/model. I am struggling to get through to a human that can advise me

Hi Jim, the 4220 and 4221 can be found here - https://www.tp-link.com/uk/home-networking/powerline/?filterby=5800

Ill admit I am confused though, the spec says up to 600mbps but under ethernet it does say 10/100 mbps, perhaps i need to look at the PGW2440 but that is significantly more expensive, I may as well drill a hole in the wall and try to trail the ethernet as neatly as possible 🙂

EDIT

or the TL-PA7017P looks like it may do the job.

@F0ssil Your spot on with the numbers, must be tp-link slight change, never the less, they are still 100Mb/s ethernet ports, if you do put a cable though, you will loose the wireless capability that the wpa kit gives.

Cable is always better, full duplex which powerline is not, no matter what they say, has a function and speed is not one of them....

The wifi signal is pretty strong from the hub as is, ive no real interest in that, my main PC needs a hardwired connection so this is what that is for, do you think that the 7027 model would provide that, the service is Full Fibre 150, up to 150mbps, guaranteed 100mbps, the 7027 state gibabit - https://www.tp-link.com/uk/home-networking/powerline/tl-pa7027p-kit/

@F0ssil There is no guarantee with powerline, but you should be able to get there, there is cheaper Tp that will do the similar, TL-WPA8631P KIT, but not sure of pricing, just look to make sure that there is a gigabyte ethernet port to get up above the 100.

the 8631 is about £90 the 7027 about £60, ill wait till me refund goes through and then try it and see what happens.

@F0ssil If you only need Ethernet and don't require the extra socket then TP-LINK TL-PA7017 about £40 would do.

nods, saw that, id go for the 7027 as i need 2 ports at the comp end (one for PC andother for work laptop) but yeah same thing really. thanks for the replies

an confirm that the PA7017P over gigabit does give me 145mbps

I went with that as the older ones still work at the slower speed and that is sufficient for my work laptop when i work from home

@F0ssil   thanks for coming back and updating the thread. Always good to hear success stories, even if your wallet/purse may have a bit dented!

@F0ssil Glad it sorted out your problem, also note that the other 2 older units work and are compatible with your new as they support the AV/AV2 standard, so the 2 old units can be paired to the master at the router so you now have a couple of single ethernet points should you need them, also note sometimes the master node can get a little confused when mixed mode but its one of those try and see and you will not know until its tried. TP do make a really good product.👍👍
