@XRaySpeX   any router may well work, but the Home Hub is based on the BT HH6 and designed for VDSL and has a 30Mbps upload restriction.

The Smart Router based on the BT Smart Router and designed for FTTP and G Fast, hence much higher throughput.

How soon some forget this https://community.ee.co.uk/t5/Broadband-Landline/FTTP-900Mbps-capped-upload-speed/td-p/981453

@Mustrum : That was a long thread but wasn't it all about the FTTP supplied EE Smart Router capping the upload speed, thereby belying your present statement? In fact I seem to remember that 1 of those posters managed to wangle an EE Smart Hub & his slow up speed went away.

Any design for VDSL2 or G.Fast goes into the modern not the router. Furthermore the BT HH6 Type B, on which the EE Smart Hub is based, was specifically designed for FTTP with its Ethernet WAN port, well before the BT SH was ever thought of.
