I was a BT customer for many years. I was lucky enough to get full fibre 900 Mbit a few years ago, and it's great, but has always been let down by the lacklustre BT SmartHub. So I have been waiting and waiting for the EE Wifi 7 router and it has finally arrived. Furthermore it is cheaper than my BT broadband and it is 1.6 Gbit. Can I get it? No, because I am an "existing" customer. So I phoned 150. "Yes you can get it by switching to EE. Oh no, it's not coming up on the system. Look, switch to EE, get the 900 Mbit package with Wifi 6, and once you are on EE the Wifi 7 will become available. Once you are set up, I'll phone you on Thursday and we'll get it sorted." (Oh and by the way it is more expensive than the 1.6 Gbit package available to new customers).
So I am up and running. Don't get me wrong, the EE Wifi 6 router is miles better than the BT SmartHub. But no phone call on Thursday, no option to upgrade to Wifi 7 online, paying more than advertised. Does this sound a familiar story to other people? Didn't BT have a promise at one point that existing customers would not be treated worse than new customers? I guess that's history as soon as it's not convenient.

@kazak-bg Do you know if the OR 1.8Gb/s is available to your address, if you check other broadband deals that should show you who/what is ready, not available for all with every company. The checker link will get you at least if OR is there.

@kazak-bg If that's true (and answers seem to change depending on who you talk to in customers services), I waited out of contract with BT Broadband for 2 years so I could get EE Wifi 7 when it was available, then EE customer services advised me to sign up to EE and then Wifi 7 would become an option (and he would personally sort it out for me!, never heard from him again). If I need to wait to the end of my current EE contract then that will be 4 years waiting. 😠 By that point I'll have my own Wifi 7 mesh kit and have weened myself off my old BT email address (no small task nowadays) and be free to vote with my feet.

Its available at my address according to that checker and when spoken before id be able to take it out if im a new customer. I came over very recently as a new customer from bt to get the 1.6 as i was told that was the route to go. Now im being told i have to wait two years.

@kazak-bg That seems to be the way, there is very mixed messages about those that transfer across from BT to EE. Some say yes was no problem, and others like yourself end up in the no way cycle. It has been stated that BT customers transfering to EE are not new customers, They keep there existing deal, EE match as close as they can package for package and cost for cost and that appears to be the way, As a BT customer it seems that it is for BT CS to do and arrange the transfer to the new ISP which in this case is there own sister company EE, and really if you were/are in the period that you are finished the contract period then you should be able to move to whatever package that you wish.
Down side and still as present until someone updates then on the {1.6Gb/s top 2 tier packages} if you have/need either DV landline or EE TV, then (you can only go as high as the EE gigabit package equivalent to the BT900 full fibre).
If promised when available you can swap then that is different, i just upgraded to fttp from fttc, and have known that it was becoming available for nearly 2 years now, VM been live since Sept23, OR were working they were live sometime Jul/Aug24, but EE just went live sometime Sept24, and i did upgrade on Sept 19th, it is just the way, Oct15 is the Live Install date and activation, and to do that re-contract for 24 month period, will see on the first or second billing cycle what the active dates say....
As a foot note OR web says 1.8Gb/s package is ok, but do not remember if EE offered, do not need to go that high in the slightest, if i look at my sons address exactly same area, close-by then Vodaphone is currently the ONLY company offering that speed range...

@kazak-bg That sounds identical to my situation. I just saw another Community post "Everything you love works better on WiFi 7 from EE" extolling the virtues of the Wifi 7 router. With some people in replies waiting for their new equipment to arrive. I have raised the question in a comment to that post on what their circumstances were before their successful switch, and how they signed up. I wondering if it is a lottery of who you talk to on 150. I'll relay any replies to here.

Well I didn't have BT TV, and I dumped DV as part of the switch to EE since I never used my landline, though keeping it was given to me as an option (£3 a month). Maybe it depends what route the 150 operator takes in the system when they apply the transfer from BT. Maybe I was just unlucky with who I got, or was just a bit quick off the mark before the operators had enough experience of the new offerings.

All I get is “Oops something went wrong at our end.”. It sure did! And just to rub it in, the sticky post when I go to these community pages is “Everything you love is better with WiFi 7”.
