Having been on the new 1.6gb/s service now for 2 weeks, and here are my views,
i have the EE new smart router plus and 3 extenders, first off i know the EE smart hub plus only has 1gb LAN ports, speeds have been ok and stable WIFI rangers from about 650-820 what is not bad, i m running with them hardwired with a lan to them, i know WiFi 6 max speeds are 1200 but rarely get them in the real world
this package feels like it been rushed out, my reason for saying this are, openreach engineers laptops have 1gb Ethernet ports so they are unable to check speeds from ONT or any other Speedtest at your home if you are on the 1.6gbs package
the EE router having only 1gb LAN, also it comes with a cat 5e cable, this cat of cable does up to 1gb, so if you are on 1.6gb/s you will need to get a new Ethernet lead to connected the smart hub plus to the ONT
all the WiFi features like work and game mode and WiFi controls dont work, it say page not found, i have heard that the WiFi enhanced feature has been turn off so the team can look at it and fix it as it affecting a lot of users and should be back after a month, i am unable to check speed via the router page this time it asking for me to make an EE account
speeds and connection has been stable and good, but i did have a lot of issues getting the service
i know of people who have bought a 3rd party router so they can get full access to the raw 1.6gbs speeds, and they are having no issues on speeds as router has 2.5gb LAN on them unlike the EE smart hub plus
i have bought a usbc to 2.5gb Ethernet adapter so i can test the raw speeds at the ONT, plus if openreach do need to test speeds at my home they will be able too
so in short i hope you can see why i think this package has been rushed out from the fact openreach dont have the kit to test speeds at the customer home, to all the issues with the new smart hub plus

In the end i went to offcom and went to the exec next gen and they said only new customers will get the router from tommrow i said i want one as soon new customers get it it really is a mess and were still only get 1.2 gbps when we pay for 1.3gbps and more

Tempted to just get Deco BE1100 - Wi-Fi 7 !
and be done with it ! Americans have been using these for months with speeds well over 4gbps up and 4gbps down! so going to work perfectly with EE 1.6 speeds.

If you’re going to spring for a router the BE85 (rather than the BE65) is better. Might be worth waiting a few days to see if the EE WiFi 7 device does launch as it looks pretty well specced.

I'm actually speechless that for months and months on end now 1.6gbps has been on offer as standalone but as soon as you add TV the max is 900mbps.
They've even updated the store just now so you can indeed order the WiFi 7 for an added fee but still no 1.6gbps & TV option.
From what I understand this is not intended to be the case necessarily but they're on 2 different ordering systems.. Surely it can't be that difficult in the grand scheme of things to enable a 1.6gbps product on the order form for TV and makes me think it's either a strategic business move to slow rollout or it's just plain incompetency at management level to have such a disorganised backend that in effect causes restrictions on what should feasibly be a simple product combination of two services offered by the same company.
I say this as myself and many other customers had several orders cancelled and reissued before finally getting a working service on the 900 + TV which is thankfully finally ok, but I can't help feel sorry for both the hardworking staff and disgruntled customers alike who have to run round in circles due to the massive inefficiency of systems probably caused by a mix of terrible upper management direction compounded by the merger with BT.

It’s a bit more complicated than just different ordering systems.
The 1.6Gbps service uses a stack directly from Openreach, not BT Wholesale.
At the moment, only BTW’s infrastructure carries EE/BT’s multicast services.
The situation is an unfortunate legacy left by EE participating in the 1.6Gbps trials by Openreach.
The trials didn’t include the TV service, so they’re working on integrating it now.
Officially, the word is that this’ll be done before the end of the year. Presumably they’ll also have to test it too.

If it opens the EE barker, then they’ve started carrying multicast traffic and we might be moving a step closer.

Complete overkill for me ! BE65 way more than enough for EE Speeds its going to be a number of years before we get any increases in speeds again.

I use the TP Link BE65 absolute no issues whatsoever. I have two units and have a wired back haul. Rock solid speeds in our 3 bedroom house.

Good to hear ill call EE now and see if they will send me out the new pro router if not ill wait to see if some get put on EB*** or get the new TP BE65 - Are you on the fastest fibre ?
