As full-time travel bloggers, keeping connected with our family and friends whilst we’re abroad is a priority. From airports to beaches, knowing we can still share a snippet of our travels with those closest to us is essential. Fortunately, the days of relying on a pay phone or postcard to keep in touch have long passed, and as EE customers, we have an array of tools and tips to keep us just a finger tap away from our loved ones.

Say goodbye to bill shocks or missed celebrations whilst you’re abroad, as here are our top tips for staying connected whilst travelling:
- A handy, portable mobile broadband device like EE’s 4GEE Wifi Mini is one of our packing essentials, allowing us to upload images and videos on the go. No longer restricted to painfully slow hotel wifi, a 4G WiFi device or phone allows us to connect to the online world in a matter of seconds, however remote our location. Because who doesn’t enjoy making their friends jealous with social media posts when you’re on that heavenly deserted beach?
- As EE customers regularly travelling through Europe, we no longer have to remember to turn our data roaming off the moment the plane’s wheels hit the tarmac. As pay monthly (or pay as you go customers), we can now take our UK allowance with us to 48 European destinations with no extra charges. This allows us to move seamlessly between countries without the worry of extra charges when sending that all-important ‘landed safely’ message to our Mum.
- Uploading images, messaging friends and catching up on social media means we often run the risk of going over our data allowance. To avoid any nasty surprises, however, EE handily lets us know by text once we’ve used 80% of our data: a lifeline for when we’re getting a little too snap happy (a frequent occurrence!)
- If, however, a place proves just too pretty not to share online, and our data is running low, EE’s handy travel bundles are always on hand. Taking just a few seconds to process, we can buy bundles for anything from just one day, to an entire month. We even purchased a bundle just minutes before entering The White House, simply so we could send snaps to our family who were waiting eagerly to see the inside! EE’s 4G Max Plan is also great for those travelling beyond Europe – covering USA, Canada, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand.
- Finally, before we leave for any trip, we do a quick check of those apps that are open and using data on our phones. It’s easy to forget these can be whirring away in the background, draining your data. Before we board our flights, we turn off all unnecessary apps to help save our data: a simple yet effective tip. Our celebrity news updates will just have to wait.
Despite spending more time in the air than on home soil, keeping in touch with our family and friends has never been easier. They say technology has made the world smaller and with products like EE’s mobile broadband, we never feel far from home.
