i added a new phone and line to my account last week which was a black 64GB iphone 11 for 24 months costing £35 a month the phone was for my brother who unbeknown to me tryed to sell it the day after, i spoke to somebody at ee on the livechat and told them what had happened and asked could i cancel my contract for it and they said i could but now ive managed to get the device back so i want to now keep it and ill use it myself for a work phone and keep my own current phone and number for personal use, the company he tried to see it to said they have reported me to ee as the handset has a Assetwatch lock on it but ive got it back and want to keep it will i get in trouble?

You need to call EE to get it off Blacklist status.
But if your brother tried to sell it I think you miss understood what EE would do
They wouldn't have cancelled the whole contract due to not receiving the device back they would have just blacklisted it. Meaning you're still liable for the monthly charges. Just the device wouldn't have worked if someone tried to run up extra charges.
