iPhone 6s sim issue

Hi guys,

have been with EE for years, recently my iPhone SE (old faithful) died big style… so i bought a used iPhone 6s which I was assured was unlocked, however, when I put my EE SIM card in, I’m told it’s not valid. Spoke to EE who advised that the phone is unlocked. So why can’t this phone recognise my EE SIM card …. Done the google search and tried following “garaunteed” fixes, to no avail.
Has anyone any ideas ?

Hi @Markp3532

Welcome to the EE community

Are you saying that you were assured pre-purchase that this phone was unlocked? Who assured you?

What is the exact error message on the iPhone screen when you try to use an EE SIM?

Hi bristolian,  I bought the phone privately on the understanding that it was unlocked. Got home and droppped my EE sim in and it says “SIM NOT SUPPORTED”. Called EE they confirm that the phone is unlocked but that was the extent of their help.

I believe that it is unlocked but for some reason it doesnt recognise my SIM, google says this is common but I’ll be damned if I can get the phone to change it’s attitude.

There's a page on Apple's support site here that may be of use.

I could surmise on my understanding of iOS-unlock process, but others are far more qualified.

Suffice to say that it's very easy to check for a SIM-lock by testing with different networks SIM, if you have access to those.

Settings>General>About then scroll down  will tell you if there’s a network lock.

Where was this purchased from? I ask because some handsets are imports or are region locked.
