Upgraded and a new sim arrived

I upgraded my phone from an XR to a 12 Pro.

 

I requested to keep the same number but a new SIM card arrived. I transferred everything over and used the new SIM card when setting it up.

 

However I was still receiving all the messages and still had the data on my old one but not on the new card?

Sounds like you didn't activate the new SIM. Good! Use the old SIM in the new phone as it's still working. A new SIM is sent just in case the old 1 doesn't.
