Standing Order - Data Gift

Hi All

There appears to be a significant failure in EE's product.  Our family have 3 telephone numbers and one account with Data.  The Data is purchased on a pay monthly contract and we cannot, it seems, set up a standing order to distribute the Data between the devices.

This is highly problematic and despite EE advising that we could have a letter to take to OFCOM.. they don't accept it is mis-selling or a child safe guarding issue.

Why make this process so tortuous? Are we missing something in making it an easier more reliable process?

Merry Christmas

@Ndege   It’s called data gifting and the ability to gift is there.  At no point is it advised as being able to setup as an automatic feature that gifts data each month to the tariffs on the account.

Not sure why you think Ofcom can help as it’s not been falsely advertised.

please see THIS it explains how it works.

Hi @Ndege ,

Data gifting is a convenience feature provided by this service provider and not available from perhaps the majority of other mobile network providers.

For your application, it is probably better to have three SIMs each with a reasonable amount of data allowance and to use data gifting for irregular and minor adjustments.

A particular deficiency of the current implementation is if the allowance refreshes while out of the country, the dependent SIMs would be left without data for a considerable period of time.

Hi Both

Thank you for taking the time to reply.  As suspected there appears to be no way of setting up a simple standing arrangement to share the total data.  The Ofcom complaint would centre on the "entrapment of access to paid for data" and "child safe guarding"

On a very basic level - we can't use the data as it was advised at the time of purchase of the package.  There is no warning that the Data period has expired.  And EE has effectively constructed a scenario where people would generate additional charges in the acquisition of data / or be without

Lets see what Ofcom say - we have to be all over these businesses in ensuring they are not abusing their position in the market / customers

Thanks again

@Ndege  It’s a monthly contract that refreshes each month it’s not advertised as being able to roll over and any data gifted is is lost at the monthly recycle start point.

You’ll find that on HERE.

EE has constructed what ?

If you use up the data then obviously you need to purchase more but you also have the ability not to purchase data as you can gift data from one allowance/contact to a different contract.   That’s why it’s called data gifting and this gifted data if not used will removed when the monthly cycle starts again for the following month.

the data period has expired ? You mean the monthly cycle for that month has started again so obviously the allowance for all contracts will reset.     It’s a contract it will do this and it’s not advertised as being able to roll over.  I think you need to read your contract.

Ofcom are not going to do anything as there isn’t any violation of anything,

Hi Chris

Thanks for the comments as you look to troll these important issues.

The contract is for 18 months and refreshes every month.  The important "product issue" is that there is no way to ensure consistent sharing of the Purchased Data.

That's a problem in terms of "Mis-selling" and "Child Safe Guarding" because we depend on our Data.

Merry Christmas - lets have an EE Present that enables the standing arrangement on sharing the Data
