SIM card/number deactivated

I wanted a new phone but the shop (without telling me) gave me an additional line. Customer service said they would deactivate one of the numbers and then deactivated the number I wanted to keep. I need that number back, what can I do? Any ideas, am feeling rather desperate

Did you urgently inform EE as soon as you became aware? What did they say?

Presumably you intended to cancel the contract which they wrongly started, and wanted to keep the contracted service which you originally had and to keep your old number and get rid of the new number?

Edit: it sounds like when you walked into the store you were interested in whether you were eligible for a device upgrade on your existing contract. Is this the phrasing you used to explain this? Or did you ask for "a new phone"?
