Today after seeing a banner saying Existing Customers could get an iPhone SE for 10% off (£30.60 / month instead of £34) I decided to upgrade from my existing SIM only contract.
After getting the confirmation email and checking in My EE it looks like this has been added as an Additional line NOT as an 'Upgrade', so I'll instead be paying for 2 lines when I only need one: both my old SIM only contract and the new iPhone contract.
Is there a way I can cancel the old contract and move the number over to the new SIM?

Awkward. If your old line is out of contract then you can ask for a PAC code, move that number to another network on prepay, then ask them for a PAC code and transfer it back to the new account. Or, you can pay your old contracts 30 day notice period and ask to be put on prepay. Ask 150 if as goodwill they can refund that last month and take you out of commitment immediatly. Once that number goes onto prepay you can ask for a internal number transfer to the new account.
Also: Be expecting they will take that 10% loyalty off along with any data boost you got for having a 2nd line etc. You could also just return the iPhone within 14 days and reorder again as an upgrade...

Thanks for you reply, mdc1983uk. Called 150 first thing this morning and they've agreed to cancel the new contract. Fortunately the new phone hasn't been delivered yet so I don't have to go through the hassle of returning it.
