HomePod Mini Can't connect with wifi (incompatible)

I tried to connect with HomePod mini by using my iPhone today. It keeps showing incompatible to complete the set-up. What should I do? I just bought 4G-EE-Mini-Wifi for HomePod yesterday.

You're right, at the moment it seems that the 4GEE Wifi uses a wifi authentication protocol that is not compatible with some Apple devices, like the HomePod or the AppleTV.

It's happened since Apple OS 13.2 or 13.3 was released and I have not managed to find a way around it unless I open the 4GEE's network, with no WPA or WEP authentication. This is not the best solution, in any case.

Your HomePod is using 14.1 and still no fix, as I can see. Either EE or Apple should update their device's software to make them compatible again but no luck for the moment.

Hi @Hein,

Welcome to the EE Community. 🙂

What is the full error message you see?

Can you connect other devices to your 4GEE WiFi?

Thanks

James

I can connect all the devices such as iPhone, apple watch, mac but I tried to set-up with my homepod mini. It shows "my wifi is incompatible" to set-up. I bought EE-Mini-Wifi to set up my homepod but it didn't work. Please help me. What should i do?

Hi @Hein,

I'd recommend reaching out to Apple Support to see if they can confirm why it is showing as incompatible.

Thanks

James

I have already reached out to the Apple Support and they didn't solve the problem and they told me to contact the EE instead to check. I live in student accommodation as the wifi is public. The AI speakers didn't support my wifi. They recommended me to have private one. That's why I bought mini wifi device because I found out smart devices are working well with that in some youtube videos and the wifi will remain private as I use my own SIM. That is what I thought. It didn't work for me either. I will be very happy if I know how to solve the problem. But, I don't know what to do now.

Many thanks for your help and patience!

@Hein Is your iPhone connected to your mini wifi device as well when you set it up?

Yes, all the devices are working except HomePod mini. It showed "The wifi is incompatible"

Hi @Hein,

Does the error message give you any additional information as to why the network is incompatible?

Thanks

James

Thats all.

The information is :

Wifi Incompatible

"The current Wi-Fi network from this iPhone cannot be used to set up your HomePod"

The apple support told me that the wifi has weaker internet speed to connect HomePod mini.

What kind of speeds do you get with the router, @Hein?

Is your HomePod within range when you're trying to connect? Have you been able to connect your HomePod to any other wireless networks?
