Changing from pay monthly with phone to sim only (monthly)

Hi,

wanted to ask a question, wondering if anyone would know anything, currently on pay monthly phone included in plan, but as I’m coming to end of contract I was considering going back to just a sim only plan, would this need the 30 days notice to change before the contract ends as I’d still be staying with EE but just on a sim only and would like to keep the same number if possible? I’d like to avoid pro rata charges like I had changing from sim only to this plan, which I wasn’t happy about and couldn’t afford, if you’re quoted a price you expect to pay the price you’re quoted. I’m confused. Could someone clear this up for me bc if I have to call them 30 days prior I’d have to do it soon. Thanks

You may upgrade to a SIM-Only contract anytime in your upgrade window from 45 days from end of contract term. You don't need to give notice. You can do this from your MyEE to Upgrade Now.

If you think I helped please feel free to hit the "Thumbs Up" button below.

To phone EE CS: Dial Freephone +44 800 079 8586 - Option 1 for Mobile Phone & Mobile Broadband or Option 2 for Home Broadband & Home Phone

ISPs: 1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up > 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB > 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB > 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU > 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU > 2011: Orange 20 Meg WBC > 2014: EE 20 Meg WBC > 2020: EE 40 Meg FTTC > 2022:EE 80 Meg FTTC SoGEA > 2025 EE 150 Meg FTTP

When I click upgrade though it will only let me upgrade to a plan with a new phone? Is there a special button I have to click? If so tell me where the magic button is lol x

It should also be offering you SIM-Only plans.

Alternatively, assuming you're eligible to change to a SIM-only plan, you can call EE C/S on 150 from your mobile, and ask the agent to change your payment plan.

I would avoid using the "upgrade" terminology if you do so, as this may cause confusion with purchasing a new phone. But the plan change will often be immediate and activated before you finish the call.

@bristolian : This is not a plan change. A plan change is the current contract incl. unchanged contract term with increased data at a higher cost. That's no good for OP who is near end of contract term.

No, like it or not, an "Upgrade" to EE is any fresh contract but keeping the same mobile no. (as you invariably point out to other users 😉).

It's an interesting point.

The OP was wanting to change from one pay-monthly plan to another. The fact this may come with a new contractual term, and that change of plans are listed on "myEE" online as "upgrades" doesn't detract from the fact you are changing payment plans on your existing number.

It is a good reminder that terminology in mobile telecoms can be confusing.

I'm using "plan change" in the way EE uses it & I'm using "upgrade" in the way EE uses it. Presumably when talking to EE CS they will also use these terms in the way that EE thinks.
