Adding another router to extend coverage

Hi I have an ee smart hub in the house and just built a summerhouse 40 mtrs away and the signal from house is not great and I may want to run a smart TV down there too. I have run ethernet cable between the two locations, and just about to terminate each end and hopefully connect one end to a spare port on the home router, can I add a smart hub at the other end in my summerhouse to increase WiFi down there and also connect a TV? If so what settings do I need to change on the summerhouse hub?

Unlike To make a 2nd Brightbox as a Routing WAP on your LAN to the main Brightbox I have failed to do the same with 2 EE SHs.

Does that mean it can't be done or it could be done with a different WiFi router?

I've already shown it can be done with 2 Brightboxes. So it must be able to be done with other generic routers.

Hi @spectramc ,

As you have already run the cable, the two most correct choices would be either an Ethernet switch or a WiFi access point. (I personally would have used powerline adapters for laziness.)

The purpose of a router is to route packets between two different networks (subnets) which would be overkill in your situation.

If you happen to have an old, spare router supporting DHCP on an RJ45 WAN, you could cable that up in the summerhouse and use it as before.

If there is no RJ45 WAN, you could connect to a LAN port, disable DHCP server on the old router and use it as a combined switch and WiFi access point. Good luck! 🤓
