Transfer existing Apple watch number to iPhone

Hello,

My son has an Apple Watch Cellular model on the £7p/m data plan which has the unlimited data / calls. He will also soon be getting an iPhone so we'll need to get an extra plan.  I called 150 and they just advised me to go for an extra package for the phone which was oddly a worse deal than a sim only package.  I was also told I could not keep the same watch number for the phone.

Ideally, what we would like would be a package that keeps the current number but can work with both the watch and the phone.  Failing that, would it be best to cancel the watch plan and just start a new sim only phone plan and tether the watch to that?

Appreciate any advise you give.

@dds4  Your best option is to start a new phone sim only contract and then take out a new watch contract.  The watch will share the call/text allowance from the sim contract but will have its own data allowance.    Don’t forget to give notice to terminate the current watch contract and you need to give 30 days notice for that.

The watch will have its own number for billing and data usage but will ring when the iPhone is called as it’s linked at account level.

Just a heads up if your son is always going to have the phone with him the watch will connect via Bluetooth to the phone so he will never use cellular data on it unless he leaves the phone behind.   If this is the case you could just not bother with a watch tariff and just use the watch as a none cellular watch.
