Did you mean:

new sim cards for samsung s8 not compatible on ee

I have had to move from Plusnet as they are ceasing their mobile service shortly so I thought I go to EE. (Plusnet piggyback on EE). My number was ported over 24 hours ago only to find there was no internet outside of home broadband.

I spoke to EE tech support who told me the Samsung Galaxy S8 is not compatible with their new sim cards. S8 is five years old. It seems I bought a contract that despite customer services asking on more than one occasion what my phone was, I cannot use.

There are old pages telling me how to set up the S8 for EE ....but they are out of date.

Only solutions: 1] buy a new phone, or 2] cancel my contract with EE and find another provider.

Be warned ....if you want to move to EE with an S8 it won't work. I'm now tryng to find a similar deal with someone else.

So much for communications from an organisation that specialises in communication.

Exactly the same problem here, in February 2024.  Clearly EE don't see this as sufficient a problem to address, so keep shipping out the same SIM cards that will not work with the Samsung S8 (one of the world's best selling phones at the time, so there's a lot of them about).

I wish I had seen these threads about the issue before I agreed with Plusnet to switch to EE.  As some folks have said, nobody at Plusnet knew of this problem, even though the agent I interacted with at Plusnet was told I use a Samsung S8.

Luckily, I have only lost a few days on this.  I see some people have spent much longer.  EE support are unhelpful and just suggest a new phone or end the contract.

For those who have complained to the Ombudsman, how did you get on?  Any success?  I'm minded to go that same route, if only because it is outrageous that one is not told about this in advance.  Actually, worse, is that EE support lied and said that it's Android 9 or earlier.  So I have just tried the SIM in an old Android 7 (Samsung A6) and it worked on 4G no problem.  So it's the S8 and they know about it.
