If you're on an existing contract and looking to update your phone, you can look at Early Upgrade options, where you may be required to pay a fee, depending on where you are along your contract, which allows you to start a new contract with new phone, keeping your existing number. 
You can find out more at Upgrade early with EE

There may also be options to Trade in your old phone with EE to help pay for towards any Early Upgrade fee, which you can ask about at the time of discussing your early upgrade.
